Nothing is more fun than a late season snowboard trip with a group of friends! Three friends and I got our hands on some free lift tickets to Mammoth Mountain, so we had a legitimate excuse to drive up to the mountains during the middle of the week. Mammoth Mountain is Southern California’s best ski center, so they know they can charge an arm and a leg for everything from lift tickets to a bowl of chili. Our group was determined to do the trip on a budget, so we slept in our cars and used a backpacking stove to cook breakfast, lunch , and dinner. I have to admit that it was a lot more fun doing everything on a budget. We even went to the Mammoth Hot Creek instead of trying to find a jacuzzi to relax in at the end of the day. (F.Y.I. 14 people have been scalded to death in Mammoth Hot Creek since 1968)

There was still a lot of snow, but the warm spring weather made for some really slushy/wet conditions. Most of the people on the mountain were in t-shirts, and were more concerned with wearing enough sunscreen rather than trying to stay warm.

CHECK OUT: If you are driving to Mammoth Mountain along Highway 395 you should take a few minutes to go and check out the Victorville Airplane Graveyard. There are all types of different planes that are either being stored there, or are waiting to be ripped apart for parts and recycling.
