The idea of the road-trip up the California Coast to San Francisco started when my two good friends, Beau and Jon and I were talking and we realized that none of us had actually explored the stretch of coast between Santa Barbara and San Francisco. After hardly any planning and talking to our friends Toby in Carmel, and Chad in San Francisco to make some tentative plans we were off!

Some of the major stops along the way were Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Big Sur, Carmel, Bixby Bridge, Half Moon Bay, and eventually San Francisco.

Toby showed us all the secret spots in and around Big Sur, one of which included an amazing camp site right on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific! We did some great hikes to some untouched beaches, and even ran into some friends from Backroads on the trail.

Some other favorites of the trip were: dining on amazing breakfast burritos, having a bonfire on the beach in Carmel, exploring small coastal towns, watching elephant seals, and just really enjoying the mellow vibe of California’s coast away from the big cities.

Chad and Toby, you guys rock! Thanks again for the hospitality.
