I would first like to say that when I went to Tonga digital cameras were not the norm, so these are the only snap shots I had and they were taken on a dispensable Kodak camera. Secondly, I would go back to Tonga in a heartbeat! I flew with Air New Zealand and was able to get Tonga as a free stopover when I was traveling from Australia to the United States. If you can ever work in a free stopover somewhere it is a great opportunity to see a new place without spending the extra money on getting there.

STAY: Ha’atafu Beach Resort is a really laid back little surf camp on the northwestern edge of the island, and has some great reef passes right out front. Ask Steve (owner) to take you out to E.T.’s. if you are feeling adventurous.

DON’T: If you go to a Tongan Luau DO NOT wait patiently at the end of the line because all of those big-boned Tongan woman will not leave any food for you.

BRING: Bring stickers, boardshorts, and wax for the local groms. They will be stoked!
